Become a Middlefield VFW Post Member

By Colleen Lockhart (Middlefield Post newspaper  Sept, 14, 2017)

Middlefield VFW Post 9678 Commander Jeff Gardner encourages any veteran, veterans’ families, or those who want to support our veterans to join a Veterans of Foreign Wars Club.  Middlefield VFW serves the communities of Middlefield, Parkman, and Huntsburg. The members meet every third Monday of the month at 7 p.m.

Membership is open to men and women ages 21 and up who have served in the military.  Commander Gardner tells us that the VFW pays for the first year membership. After the first year if that new member gets involved and helps the club, the club may pay for their life membership.  Guest members are also very important. Without their help many of the community projects would not happen. The guest members do not have to have been in the military to join. Veterans who do not have a campaign ribbon (served in a war/conflict zone) can also become guest members.  They enjoy all the club benefits with the exception of voting at meetings. The cost of a guest membership is $25 a year.

All money made by the Post is put in a general fund and used in our community. Most recently, the VFW grilled and served free rib dinners to veterans at the Christ Covenant Church. Upcoming special events provide opportunities for members and social members to volunteer their skills and share social time. A steak dinner will be held on Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. at the Post; spaghetti dinner on Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. at the Post; and a trip to Seneca Niagara Casino and Resort, Oct. 22 and 23 with an overnight stay. Several fundraisers are in the planning stages for next year including the car show on Memorial weekend, a golf outing in June, another trip to Blossom Music Center on the fourth of July, a bike ride (peddle) planned for July and various casino trips throughout the year.

"I know that there are more people in this community who want to get involved in helping our local veterans,” said Kathy Hartz, social member and Fitness 101 instructor. "Sometimes membership comes in the way of wanting to do something for someone else and the VFW is a great place. Our social members have been a huge part of each of the events we have. Without them our events might not happen.

The VFW is open Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. until no later than 1 a.m. and on Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and at extended times for special events. Our VFW is a place where you walk in as a friend but you leave as part of a family!

We hope to see you join!

Now open on Saturday’s noon to 8 p.m.

Bar hours are Monday – Friday 3 p.m. – til no later than 1 a.m.
